About

Manuel Palomares is a former Research Fellow at the Social Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of York (UK). He was part of the Children and Youth People’s Social Work Team and he worked on a project evaluating the national "Social pedagogy pilot programme in residential children’s homes" by the Department for Education.

He is currently finishing his PhD at the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology, Autonomous University of Madrid. The thesis work is due to be submitted in 2012.

Since 2002 he has undertaken research focused on education and socialization of children in residential child care; children in care and online interaction; and the experience of immigrant students and gypsy children in the educational system. His teaching experience with MA level students is focused on the areas of "Educational Psychology", "Qualitative Research Methods" and "Educational Contexts Out-of-School".

As a professional, Manuel Palomares worked for some years in the Spanish Child Welfare System, where he coordinated two children’s homes as a psychopedagogue.  In 2009, he was appointed as a Research Consultant by the Spanish regional government of Castilla-La Mancha to design a new educational approach to residential child care in that region. In 2010, he joined the University of York.
