Professor of Linguistics at the Universidad Autónoma (Madrid, Spain), Member of the International Pragmatic Association Consultation Board (2006-2011), and Member of the Scientific Board of the CRITICS Foundation (Centres for Research into Text/Talk, Information, and Communication in Society).

She is also a specialist in Sociolinguistics, and the results of her research studies on multilingualism, not only in educational but also in some other areas, have been published in international and national magazines. Following the Discourse Analysis framework, she has studied the social representations of migrants in the media, the political and the daily discourses, as well as their social consequences.

That is why she holds the title of national expert by the European Observatory against Racism and Xenophobia (EU). Her current work focuses on the study of the management of cultural and linguistic diversity in schools in Madrid, analyzing how inequality is constructed, naturalized and legitimized through discourse. In this field, she heads the following projects: "A socio-pragmatic analysis of intercultural communication in education: Towards integration in schools”, and "Multilingualism in Schools: a Critical Sociolinguistic Analysis of Educational Linguistics Programs in the Madrid Region”. Dr. Martín Rojo is also a member of the editorial boards of Discourse & Society, and Spanish in Context, among other international academic journals.
